Who is Rama?

Who is Rama?

The eldest son of the King of Ayodhya Dasharath was Rama. He was the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. As a Prince he was the perfect role model for humans, known as 'maryada purushottam' (lord of virtue). He was a scion Ikshvaku Solar Dynasty.

Worshiping God through it's messenger the Fire was common on the continent. Sun was considered messenger of Heaven. RamRajya was a Hindu Kingdom of Cultural Heritage spread from Hindu Kush to Thailand, covering Burma, Srilanka, Indonesia, Bali and Malaysia. Ramayana (The Way of Rama) was the most popular epic of the Continent. Rama was the scion of the Solar Dynasty - so perhaps Rama - the 'Man of the Sun'.

Surprisingly, the holy fire in Zoroastrian (Parsi) is called 'Atash BehRam'. Muslim believes that Abraham built Kaaba. Was he Abraham or AbRam? Researchers may find one day some link amongst all the Ramas in Asia.

But the name Rama was exist before the birth of Dashrath's Son. The 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu was Lord Parasu Rama. Word/name Rama was there before his arrival. In the Vishnu sahasranama, Rama is the 394th name of Vishnu.

सुप्रकेतैर्द्युभिरग्निर्वितिष्ठन रुशद्भिर्वर्णैरभि राममस्थात || (Rig Ved, 10.3.3)
supraketairdyubhiraghnirvitiṣṭhan ruśadbhirvarṇairabhi rāmamasthāt ||
(Agni, far-spreading with conspicuous lustre, hath compassed Night with whitelyshining garments.) Does the darkness referred for the 'dark matter' the origin of all universes and galaxies?

Rama - 'Ra' in sanskrit is the seed of fire (agni) (the Sun is called 'Ra'). 'Ma' is for 'manah' (mind). A completely purified mind.

। Valmiki said “Ramayate iti Ramaha” - means one who gives great bliss.

The seed mantra of Hinduism is Om. The first letter of all mantras is Om. It is believed that the whole creation is the manifestation of Om. People claimed that the sound of Sun is Om. When all sounds disappear and the last remains (shesh), that is Om. The 'anahat naad' is Om. Om is the seed of all creation and it is the life of all.

All sounds originate in a 'seed' sound (beeja mantra) which is represented linguistically in a language symbol (akshara), the combination known as beejakshara. How Om ( ॐ) is written? It is Hindi 'oo' (ऊ) with half moon sign and a bindi over it (ँ). The moon sign is pronounced 'r' and the bindi over it as 'm'. R..m.. that is Rama.

In the interpretation of Adi Sankara's Rama has two meanings: the supreme Brahman who is the eternally blissful spiritual Self in whom yogis delight, or the One (i.e., Vishnu) who out of his own will assumed the enchanting form of Rama, the son of Dasaratha.

Kabirdasji explained,
एक राम दशरथ का बेटा, दूजा राम घटघट मै बैठा: तीसरे राम का सकल पसारा; चौथा राम है सबसे न्यारा। (He is the son of Dasharath. He is in the heart of all creatures. The universe is his manifestation. He is above all, the formless Brahman, the baseless base of all)

"Rama" is a mantra, a sound for salvation. The repetition of which can lead one to higher states of consciousness. The chanting of the mantra is a common practice in India. Hanuman, Valmiki, Tulsidas, Kabir, Namdev, Gandhi, Morari Bapu, and many were/are Rambhaktas. Thousands of people in India pray him as God and carry Rama as suffix or prefix to their names.

When we light a lamp before the start of any good work, it is a start in presence of "Rama", the purified minds of all to witness and guide the event. Ramnam is a guide of purified act.

An old Vaidhraj at my first posting place in Dahod used to tell us, Rama lives in our heart. Heart problem means unhappiness of God to the individual (Ram Ruth Gaya). Better to correct our acts and deeds so that His blessings shower on us flawlessly.

हरे राम हरे राम, राम राम हरे हरे।

रामराम।
