Touchability untouchability

Touchability and un-touchability

Our body is an energy ball, a compound of five elements, five object of senses, ten organs, mind, intellect, ego, prakriti and the purusha (the divine energy activating all).

In ancient India, people were mainly divided into three categories, i.e. Satvik, Rajsik and Tamsik.

As each energy ball has its energy flow and active aura, therefore when two persons come in contact they start exchanging the energy. The excess energy drains towards the deficient object.  The ancient Hindus used to conserve their energy by seclusion, i.e. avoid direct contact with earth, greet each other with Namste mudra to avoid touch, keep away from other human beings depending upon their food-living styles, etc.

But majority of people in modern India live almost same life style. There is little left to clearly classify them into satvik, rajsik and tamsik division. People can’t live in seclusion as all have to work together and live together.  Namste has been replaced with shake hands and hugs.

As the life is so hectic and takes away lot of energy from the body, each individual needs some bonus energy at the end of the day or a week.

Acupressure works on the principle of energy balancing.

When we shake hands we press each other’s important acupressure points which are directly helping four major organs, i.e. heart, small intestine, lungs and large intestine. A good shake hands with smiling face relives oneself from the stress developed from the work or fights. It is an instant relaxing technique.

Similarly when we hug each other, the body releases the excess energy of stress organs and takes energy from other body for the deficient organs. It in turns sedate and tonify the energy of both. If both have excess or deficiency of same organs the hugs won’t help. But it is rare to happen because there are twelve energy rivers. All can’t have same energy flow in both individuals. The hug helps.

The old persons play more with children to take away excess energy of the children and balance their deficiency. Charan sparsh, ashirvad mudra, etc. are energy balancing and tuning gestures.

We do it, but let us do it consciously to help each other. We shall shake hands well and hug (jadu ki jappi) each other well for the well being of all of us.

Gram Swaraj, Mera Bharat Mahan
Are we on a right path? Are we killing Bharat?
Bharat was a country of villages.
Bharat was living in its villages for 5000 years.
Bharat means thankful. Bharat was a country where people were dependent on each other and thankful to each other for their survival.
Ram the life energy in all (not Dashrath’s son) was the GOD.  Sun was the father and Earth was the mother. Agnidev (fire), Vayudev (wind) and  Varundev (rains) were chief deities. People used to start their days before Sun rise, used to work with mother earth and its natural resources during the day, dinner together in the family,  enjoy stories of Ramayana, Mahabharat, Panchtantra, Hitopdesh, etc., and go to bed doing astrological research of multi stars sky.
Villages were in fact Agro Estates with farmers, farm workers, shepherd and various craft persons. The Agro Estate has interdependent activities. The farmers need services of Carpenter for making plough; need services of the cobblers for leather articles required in agro activities and articles for home use; need services of the potter for earthen articles for construction of houses and home utilities; need services of the weavers for clothes and ropes; need services of metal workers, etc.
Transactions were mainly through barter system.
There were mainly 18 trades in villages other then the farming. Some were: Weaver, cobbler, potter, carpenter, black smith, gold-silver smith, meson, earthen house makers, ganchi (oil seeds press-seller), barber, etc.
Brahmins were the educationist and researcher of nature and divinity. Kshatriya were maintaining law & order, Vaidhyas were treating patients.
Some people who cannot make utility articles were used for other services of social and customary needs; i.e., drum biting, entertaining villagers by music and playing popular stories Mahabharat, Ramayana, Panchtantra, Hitopdes, etc. Infect, these folk players  were prachraks of Indian great customs and traditions.
It was mostly the homogeneous society where everybody had similar houses to live and similar foods to eat.
The indigenous designs and technology and life styles were giving them the happiness of life. Our kitchens were our medical stores with all the medicines balancing out Vat-Pitta-Cough as per seasons.
All the communities of the village were considered one family. There were no marriages within the village. People call each other with relations of uncle, aunt, brother, sisters, nephew, niece, etc.
The caste system was not the unequal castes in present form but the respected profession of families. As all activities were group activities, people lived in joint family system. The entire family members from children to old were involved in the making of goods and tied with the union of hearts.
The land was utilized as per the fertility. The less fertile land was used for construction of houses. Medium fertile land was used for Gochar for grazing animals. The fertile land was used for food grains cultivation.
As the agriculture activities were limited to monsoon season, craft workers family members used to do farm labour in monsoon and remaining months do the craft work. The land owners cultivate the land and distribute food grains to different craft persons for their services throughout the year. Agro products and craft products were running the economy with barter system. All villages were independent. People used to meet the neighboring villagers at the time of rituals, customs, ceremonies, festivals and crisis. There was village pride, community pride, love and respects among all.
The system developed vices in the form of inequality of caste system, exploitation by the land lords and traders. But it came through import of ideas from other parts of the world.
It was a productive Bharat, in which all the members were participating in the economic and social activities.
The present India is a country of machines, where machines are working with the force of electricity and all of us use our mouth to speak more and use body less for physical activities. We are losing our creativity and craftsmanship. Many of us are earning and hording beyond our needs. The average life span of Indians have gone up but the physical and mental fitness are going down with more and more dependency on drugs.
It was mentioned somewhere:  80% of Korean can make something with hands, 61% Chinese can make something with hands; but only 10% of Indians can make something with hands.
Our country is marching towards urbanization with slums, mechanization with mass production, famous with its exports of goods, natural resources and services and import of weapons, machines and technology. Infect it is draining our natural resources for the developed nations in the name of export-import. Partition of India and disputes with neibouring country takes away huge money on defence. We are exploiting our natural resources without looking at the future needs. The productive use of debt money and utilization of money earned through all these economic activities need evaluation.
The present path is going towards urban centric India with generation of many vices i.e., cheating, gambling; govern by individual activities and people detached from each other with the disunion of hearts and fighting brains.
The 18th century Industrial Revolution ruined our country with the entry of foreign forces, slavery, adoption of foreign thinking and breaking the backbone of Bharat.  Economic disparity brought jealousy and unhappiness. Physical comfirts have increased but mental disturbances also have gone up.
Brains are drained by paper money and Hearts are in danger with heart attacks. Our bodies remain Bhartiya but the blood transformed.
Where is Happiness; in bank balance or in deep sound sleep without tablets? What is important; the paper currency and fights or peace of life?
Some feel that they are cultured with new reforms of education, urbanization.
For an example, when one look at an electrical appliance i.e., mixture; it might have cost Rs. 4000. But the electricity behind it, the cables, the transformers, generators, raw-materials, managements, money, machines, transports, roads, administration, bureaucrats, politicians, corruptions, all put to gather make it very expensive. Do one need an expensive mixture or use one's hand, time and handmade Wooden Ravaiyo to perform the job.
We are Bharat. Do we need inflation of paper money and count all our activities in monetary terms, calculate GDP and compare us with others? Do we need comparison? If a village of Bharat is self dependent, the country is also self dependent. If we are happy within our boundaries, why should other interest groups purchase and govern us? Do we need westernization? Do we need urbanization? Do we need mechanization? Do we need country of Mass Production and pollution?
OR
We need Bharat of Villages; a country of social-religious harmony and economic equality; an environment friendly nation with production by mass; a country free from stress, free from poverty, free from unemployment with its entire population live in peace, happiness.
Bhart of Gram Swaraj. Mahan Bharat.
Some thoughts put down on paper to read and respond.
Shubham Bhavtu.
Yours,
Punamchand

    What was my sin Madhav?

    What was my sin Madhav?

Karna and Arjuna were in a duel on a muddy ground. When Arjun's Chariot got stuck in mud, and Arjun and Krishna were busy taking off the Chariot out of mud and were unarmed, Karna refused to fire arrow on Arjun saying that it is against the rules of the war. When Karna's own chariot got stuck on mud, he stepped down and tried to take it off, at that very moment, Arjun on the order of Krishna shot at unarmed Karna hence breaking the very rule of war. The Suta-Putra was killed for Dharma of Krishna.

It was impossible for Pandavas to defeat Kauravas lead by Karna. Therefore, Krishna executed a plan. He drew him away from the battle field and brought to a wet field, where Karna's chariot got struck in mud. As Karna's charioteer died in war, therefore, Madra Raj Shalya was his charioteer. The Kshatriya King felt insulted doing work of a charioteer of a Suta King. He neither help Karna in taking off the wheel of the chariot nor gave his Vijaya Dhanush to fight with Arjuna. The bravest of the braves Karna was left unarmed on the ground, and Arjun, under the instructions of Krishna, killed him violating all the rules of Kshatriya wars.

Before dying, Karna asked Lord Krishna, what is my sin Madhav? Why did you do this, killing the Suta Putra by breaking laws.

What did Krishna reply? "Your silence was your sin, Karna". You kept silence when Du:shasan  (Sushasan) was molesting Dropadi. You kept silence when Abhimanyu was killed violating all the rules of the war. Madhav was replying.

Why was I received hatred in the name of caste? Why was I deprived of education by Guru Drona? Why did Guru Parshuram cursed me? Was it my crime to allow the black bee to cut me badly but not to disturb the sleep of my Guru? He cursed me for my caste. Why was my ability was not accepted against the caste culture? My brother was killed by pouring boiled gold into his mouth because he uttered verses of Vedas. Demanding change in the society was my goal of the life. Was it adharma? Why then my life is ending like this, breaking all the rules of war, Madhav? Karna was asking.

You have selected the wrong means to achieve your goal. Whatever good your goal may be, but if the means to achieve that goals are impure, you have to fail. I have requested you four times to join the side of the Dharma but you were imprisoned in the jail of your vows. You took the side of Adharma, the side of Duryodhana (Suyodhana), who was committing sins again and again. Madhav was replying.

Krishna had two Dhanurdhar Kauntaiyas, but he took side of Arjuna, the legitimate son of Queen Kunti.

This reminds me not similar but correlated events of our freedom struggle. Gandhi (Mohan) had two Dhanurdhars (Jawahar and Subhash). Jawahar lit up during the Lahore Congress in 1929 and Subhash during the Haripura Congress in 1938. Both were committed for the freedom of India. But Subhash differed with the principal of non violence of Mohan. Mohan believed in the purity of ends and means both. He opted for non violence as means to achieve his ends of independence.

“I feel that our progress towards the goal will be in exact proportion to the purity of our means.”- Gandhi

But for Subhash, goal/ends was major. He favoured violence also as one of the means to achieve the ends. He had to resign and leave the Congress and joined hands with the side of the Axis (Germany, Italy, Japan, etc) in WW-II. The Axis were the adharmis (enemies) from the side of the Allies (friends). Mohan succeeded with Jawahar in his goal of independence of India following the path of pure means of non violence. And Subhash failed in his goal of achieving freedom by the means of violence/attack.

Madhav (Mohan) was killed by an arrow of a hunter Jara and Mohan (Gandhi) was killed by a bullet of Godse. Unarmed Karna was killed by Arjun and Subhsh died in a plane crash.

Thousands were sacrificed in the war of ancient Mahabharata. Hundreds were killed and thousands were displaced in the modern war of Partition.

    History teaches lessons.

    Is sleep a meditation?

    Is sleep a meditation?

"Sleep is the best meditation" - Dalai Lama.

Our body is made of millions of cells. Everyday we breathe, drink and eat and keep the machine alive. But it is run by the Chaitanya, life energy of the universal cosmos. The Jada/body survives through the materials of air, water and food and the life energy (individual) continue with its unions with the Samasti (universal) energy. Each one of us are living in an Ocean of air by connecting out nostrils to breathe in and breathe out the life and death respectively.

What happens, when we go into the deep sleep. The jada/body rests on the bed and the chetan/soul rests with the universal soul (samasti chetana). Therefore, we don't remember anything except the feeling of a better sleep. We live the sleep without dash and kaal. Guru Geeta mantra says:

Brahmsnandam, param sukhadam, kevalam jyanamurtim; dvandvateetam, gagan sadrudam, tatvamasyadi lakshyam; ekam, nityam, vimal machalam, sarvadheesakshibhutam, bhavateetam, trigun rahitam, Sadgurum tam namami.

(I salute to that Sadguru who is the source of eternal bliss, supreme happiness, who has true wisdom, who is beyond dualities, who is infinite, whose attention is always on the divine, who is unique, eternal, pure, steady, and who sees with the eyes of wisdom, who is beyond thoughts and beyond three gunas.)

Eternal bliss, supreme happiness, personification of wisdom, beyond duality, as infinite as sky, attention on the Devine, one, eternal, pure, stead, witness, beyond emotions, beyond three Gunas (satva, rajas, tamas), are the characters of our soul.

During sleep, we attain this stage of consciousness where all gunas, karmas, duality, ends and all of us good or bad, rest in peace, rest in the Universal Soul.

But Patanjali didn't say that Sleep is a meditation. If sleep is a meditation than all the creatures on earth sleep everyday, therefore they are to be called the Yogis. Patanjali called meditation a Dhyana. It is a process of self knowledge, unifying process of I, You and Thee. In normal living our body live as per the moves of our mind. Mind (minister) governs and the inner sound (anteratna ki awaaz) is suppressed. But in spiritual path, the Soul (the King) governs and the mind follows. The inner sounds become the torch light of our path of life. And therefore, dhyana is done in the consciousness of our chetana. The body rests but the mind alive. Self realisation than Parmatma realisation. The memory of deep sound sleep can just tell us, how best our life will be if all of us live in that stage of mind (peace, happiness....) 24x7.

Anato ahiyan (smaller than the smallest) mahato mahiyan (greater than the greatest). The individual soul is small and the universal soul is big. But the individual soul is part of the universal soul, therefore carry all the characteristics of the universal soul. Therefore, it can attain the stage of Anato ahiyan and mahato mahiyan. It can achieve the Astha siddhi of Anima (smaller that the smallest), Mahima (larger than the largest), garima (heavy), laghima (light), prapti (obtain), prakamya (fulfill desire), isitva (power of God), vasitva (ability to control 5 elements of nature).

We all carry such abilities in smaller form. They are different in all individuals. Therefore, though the body parts and the make is the same, but we carry different capacities in terms of physical and mental abilities as well as our thoughts that become our karma and character. Our scientists are Param Dhyanis. Their research is their meditation. They need the ability to think the smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest. Therefore, every moment they are inventing and discovering the secretes of the Nature. While working, when we concentrate on our subject, all of us are in meditation. And whenever we work for the Sanasti goods, we receive peace and happiness. And whenever we work for self interest and samasti bads, we receive pains.

Do meditate. Life is for meditation 24x7. The unification process with the Thee.

    Silk pillow of Semal Cotton

    Silk pillow of Semal cotton

Rich or poor, humans need pillow to rest. While sleeping, one needs perfect bed pillow to fill the space between the head and shoulder. Little lift of the head reduces the blood flow into the brain and ease it going into sleep. People in general are using plant cotton to make the pillows. But some special people use silk, soft fibre and the cotton of Semal tree in their pillows. When normal pillow costs ₹500, the Shimar cotton pillow costs ₹5000. It has medicinal use, as it gives deep sound sleep. It gives cooling to the brain and the softness prevents the stiffness of the neck. It removes spirit, therefore used as pillow for the children. The children who are crying more and not sleeping well, this pillow acts as a treatment.

Semal, Shimalo (Ceiba Bombax) is a Silk cotton tree. It is a very useful tree as it's stem cover, fruits, gum and flower are used for medicinal use. As the tree is cold in nature, it's parts are used in controlling diseases related to heat, pitta, blood toxins, etc. It's wood is used in making boats. But the most important is the use of it's seed pods. The pods containing seeds surrounded by a fluffy, yellowish fibre that is a mix of lignin and cellulose. The fluff like cotton of the seed pods is used in making pillows. Difficult to spin, the cotton is used in making pillows, mattresses and teddy bears. It is resistant to water, therefore used in life jacket before it was replaced with synthetic material. As the trees are limited and it's cotton is scarce, therefore, the pillow made of Semal is expensive.

Don't rush to the mall 'Home Town' and increase the demand, otherwise in limited supply of the tree cotton, the supplier will use more of synthetic fibre and less of Semal cotton. After all, you won't know the truth of the stitched pillow. If you get deep sound sleep while resting your head on the Semal cotton pillow, you can trust the shop keeper. Otherwise, go into the forest, collect the cotton of the Silk tree and make a pillow at home. We tried once some 7 years ago, collected cotton from a Semal tree standing behind the Akshardham in Sector-20. The cotton of the tree is so soft, that it goes on squeezing as you use it. If worried about some spirits (bhoots), do use Semal cotton pillow.

Grow more Silk Cotton Trees and make more Silk Pillows! Lol.

    Nature builds and destroys

    Nature builds and destroys

Can you imagine, an event of a minute or two changes the history and geography of the area?  The area cultivating paddy and generating revenue for the state from rice suddenly become a dessert. A port that generate income of 100,000 kories/day falls into poverty? A town of 6000 population in 1820, become a ghost town of only 566 inhabitants by 2011?

Yes. It had happened due to an earthquake of 7.7-8.2 magnitude for 2 minutes in the evening of 16 June 1819. The flow of Indus River moved northward. A bund 80 km long, 6m wide and 6m high was created by the earthquake, that had blocked the flow of water of Nara (Puram/Kori), a tributary of Indus towards Lakhpat. The ancient great lake of Narayan Sarovar dried up. Lakhpat, the port on the mouth of Kori Creek and a centre of maritime activities between Gujarat and Sindh lost its significance. The bund was created by God, therefore, it is called Allah Bund/Dam. The creek was called kori, not because it was dry, but it was generating revenue for the State. But bund of 1819 made it kori, without business. The bund had blocked the way of the water flow from Sindhu and its tributaries towards Kutch. It had created a lake Sindari (1000 sqm)(Pakistan).

People believe that the bund was created by the earthquake, but some villagers in kutch believed that the water flow was blacked by a Mir Muslim ruler of that area. The earthen dam was built by scarcity works using horns of buffalos for strengthening the structure. Looking at the length, width and height of the bund and the sparse population in the area, the argument of a man made structure can be ruled out. But the 80km structure can't be of the same shape, size and length in order without human interventions. Some bund must have come up by the earthquake, but the openings must have been closed by the human interventions as described by the people in Kutch.

Some actions were initiated by British before independence in 1936 to bring water of Sindhu into Kutch through a branch canal, but didn't move beyond a paper work. When river water sharing agreements were signed between both the countries, this might have been missed. Now Narmada water has reached upto Anjar and Climate Change hasn't change the scarce precipitation over the area, the scarcity days of the area are not going away.

South Gujarat receives the highest rainfall in the State but the water drain out into the Sea. Narmada river has improved the quality of life of the people of the State but if the water of Damanganga lifted up to North, it can further ease out the water demand. Linking Ganga (Damanganga) with Sarasvati (North Gujarat) will not only solve the problem of water shortage of North Gujarat but also will improve the flow of Narmada water towards Saurastra and Kutch.

With the increase in population, the demand of water is increasing in Pakistan, therefore, it might be difficult to get a branch canal of Sindhu into Kutch by a bilateral treaty. However, the flood water of Sindhu, if diverted towards Kutch, it can be a great support. But will that be possible?

Kutch, 1/4 of the geographical area of the State, if supplied with water by all round efforts of water conservation, water storage, Narmada supply and somehow bring the Sindhu water, can become the growth engine of Gujarat.
