Book Launch: “Bollywoodasya Lingant” by Shri Vijay Ranchan (Hindi Book)
The book “Bollywoodasya Lingant”, authored by noted writer and social commentator Shri Vijay Ranchan, was successfully launched on 12 December 2025 at the Govardhanram Tripathi Smriti Mandir, Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Ahmedabad.
The event was attended by Shri Vijay Ranchan along with his family members and eminent guests including Shri Ashok Narayan, Shri Balwant Singh, Shri V. N. Maira, Shri V. C. Patel, Shri Pravin Trivedi, Shri Sanjay Prasad, Smt. Sangita Prasad, Guest of Honour Nisarga Ahir, the President of the function Shri Prakash Shah, the undersigned, and several other invitees.
A distinctive feature of the book is its reference to Hindu mythology and Sufi tradition.
Sufi traditions, where the relationship between the murshid and the murid is rooted in devotion and spiritual surrender. The author cites classical examples such as Amir Khusro–Nizamuddin Auliya, Sarmad–Amichand, Dara Shikoh and his spiritual master, and Shah Hussain–Madho Lal, presenting them as bonds of intense spiritual love. The book also notes historical relationships like Mahmud of Ghazni–Ayaz and Alauddin Khilji–Malik Kafur, which are often interpreted as being driven by love, desire, or personal attachment.
There is no man who is completely male, and no woman who is completely female. Beyond the body, feminine emotions may exist within a male form, and masculine emotions within a female form. Though natural, such variations are often met with hatred or ridicule in society.
Reflecting on the repeal of IPC Section 377 (Victorian line), the book acknowledges Justice R. F. Nariman’s contribution in restoring constitutional dignity, freedom of expression, and human rights to the LGBTQIA+ community. It also charts the evolution of Indian cinema from ridicule and stereotyping to more sensitive portrayals.
For a long time, Bollywood portrayed homosexual characters as objects of ridicule or fear. Indian cinema has now moved beyond the farce of Dostana, the controversy surrounding Dunno Y, and the protests against Fire. Films like Maja Ma now portray acceptance of identity. Masculinity and femininity have risen beyond the body and now resonate through the mind and heart. The era of the “He-Man” Dharmendra is over, and no film will now mock a character like Pinku by cutting his pink hair. No one will be forced to resign from the post of CBFC chairperson, as Vijay Anand once did for Gulabi Aaina.
Films such as Badhaai Do and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga can now correct earlier shortcomings and more truthfully portray homosexual lives. Whether it is Tamanna, Sadak, or Shabnam Mausi, the time has come to acknowledge the social and historical importance of the third gender.
“Bollywoodasya Lingant”—from its title alone—sounds like a Sanskrit text. Shri Ranchan chose the name inspired by Vedanta. Just as the essence of the Vedas lies in the Upanishads, Lingant moves beyond the male–female binary to narrate the story of expression, dignity, and justice for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Despite poor health, he worked tirelessly to present this important work. There is a sharp edge to his pen—his eight-page analytical discussion on Badnam Basti, based on archival research, is testimony to his scholarship. Each film discussion holds the reader’s attention. If a film on this subject were to be made today, producers and directors would do well to seek guidance from him.
Shri Vijay Ranchan is a courageous, humanist writer and a sentinel of social justice. He has consistently made the marginalized the protagonists of his books—Bollywood Ki Narigatha, Bollywood Ka Gumshuda Musalman, Bollywood Ke Atirikt—and now this fourth work, Bollywoodasya Lingant. This is his 18th book. Regardless of health concerns, he continues to write. His very name is “Ranchan”—creation is inevitable.
Inspired by the philosophical idea of Vedanta, Bollywoodasya Lingant goes beyond binary definitions of gender to narrate a broader story of identity, justice, and inclusion. This is Shri Vijay Ranchan’s 18th book, reaffirming his lifelong commitment to giving voice to marginalised communities despite health challenges.
The book stands not only as a critique of Bollywood cinema but also as a mirror of India’s evolving social consciousness, advocating dignity, acceptance, and the vision of an inclusive society.
It is hoped that this book by Shri Ranchan will guide society toward greater understanding and acceptance. Heartfelt congratulations to the author—may this work inspire the creation of an open and inclusive society.

पुस्तक विमोचन: “बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत” – श्री विजय रचन
प्रसिद्ध लेखक और सामाजिक टिप्पणीकार श्री विजय रचन की पुस्तक “बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत” का विमोचन 12 दिसंबर 2025 को गोवर्धनराम त्रिपाठी स्मृति मंदिर, गुजरात साहित्य अकादमी, अहमदाबाद में सफलतापूर्वक किया गया।
इस कार्यक्रम में श्री विजय रचन अपने परिवार के साथ उपस्थित थे। प्रमुख अतिथियों में श्री अशोक नारायण, श्री बलवंत सिंह, श्री वी. एन. मैरा, श्री वी. सी. पटेल, श्री प्रवीन त्रिवेदी, श्री संजय प्रसाद, श्रीमती संगीता प्रसाद, मुख्य अतिथि निसर्ग अहिर, कार्यक्रम अध्यक्ष श्री प्रकाश शाह, और लेखक के निमंत्रित अन्य उपस्थित व्यक्ति तथा मैं स्वयं शामिल थे।
बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत 1960 से 2022 के बीच बनी 100 से अधिक बॉलीवुड फिल्मों का गंभीर विश्लेषण प्रस्तुत करती है। यह पुस्तक तीसरे लिंग, समलैंगिक पुरुष और महिलाएं (गाय और लेस्बियन) के चित्रण का अध्ययन करती है, IPC सेक्शन 377 के युग से लेकर इसके रद्द होने के बाद तक। पुस्तक में यौन नैतिकता, सामाजिक पूर्वाग्रह, गरिमा और मानव अधिकार जैसे विषयों पर प्रकाश डाला गया है।
इस पुस्तक की एक विशेषता हिंदू पौराणिक कथाओं और सूफी परंपरा का संदर्भ है।
लेखक ने भारतीय परंपरा में लिंग तरलता (Gender Fluidity) की दीर्घकालीन स्वीकृति को उजागर किया है—जैसे अय्यप्पा के जन्म के लिए विष्णु का मोहिनी रूप धारण करना, कृष्ण का अरावन की पत्नी बनना, अर्जुन का बृहन्नला बनना, और शिखंडी का भीष्म युद्ध में भूमिका निभाना।
सूफी परंपरा में, मुर्शिद और मुरीद के बीच का संबंध भक्ति और आध्यात्मिक समर्पण पर आधारित होता है। लेखक ने ऐतिहासिक उदाहरणों का हवाला दिया है—अमीर खुसरो–निज़ामुद्दीन औलिया, सरमद–अमीचंद, दारा शिकोह और उनके गुरु, शाह हुसैन–मधोलाल—जिनके संबंध गहन आध्यात्मिक प्रेम के प्रतीक हैं। पुस्तक में यह भी उल्लेख है कि महमूद गज़नी–ऐयाज़ और अलाउद्दीन खिलजी–मलिक काफूर जैसे संबंध प्रेम, वासना या व्यक्तिगत लगाव से प्रेरित हो सकते हैं।
किसी पुरुष में पूर्ण पुरुषत्व नहीं होता और किसी महिला में पूर्ण स्त्रीत्व नहीं। शरीर से परे, पुरुष रूप में स्त्री जैसी भावनाएँ और महिला रूप में पुरुष जैसी भावनाएँ भी हो सकती हैं। ये प्राकृतिक होते हुए भी समाज में अक्सर घृणा या उपहास का कारण बनती हैं।
IPC सेक्शन 377 (विक्टोरियन कानून) के रद्द होने पर पुस्तक न्यायमूर्ति आर. एफ. नरीमन के योगदान को स्वीकार करती है, जिन्होंने LGBTQIA+ समुदाय को संवैधानिक गरिमा, अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता और मानव अधिकार प्रदान किए। पुस्तक यह भी दर्शाती है कि भारतीय सिनेमा ने हास्य और डर के माध्यम से समलैंगिक पात्रों को प्रस्तुत करने से संवेदनशील और वास्तविक चित्रण की ओर कैसे प्रगति की है।
लंबे समय तक बॉलीवुड समलैंगिक पात्रों को मजाक या डर के रूप में दिखाता रहा। अब दोस्ताना का प्रहसन, डून्नो वाय का बवाल और फायर का विरोध के दौर को पीछे छोड़ते हुए, फिल्में जैसे मजा मा पहचान और स्वीकृति को प्रस्तुत करती हैं। पुरुषत्व और स्त्रीत्व अब शरीर से ऊपर उठकर मन और हृदय के माध्यम से व्यक्त हो रहे हैं। “He-man” धर्मेंद्र का युग समाप्त हो चुका है और अब किसी फिल्म में पिंकू जैसे पात्र का मजाक उनके गुलाबी बाल काटकर नहीं उड़ाया जाएगा। किसी को भी सेंसर बॉर्ड के अध्यक्ष के पद से इस्तीफ़ा देने के लिए मजबूर नहीं किया जाएगा, जैसा कि विजय आनंद ने गुलाबी आईना के लिए किया था।
बधाई दो और एक लड़की को देखा तो ऐसा लगा जैसी फिल्में अब अपने पिछले दोष सुधार कर समलैंगिक जीवन को सच्चाई के साथ प्रस्तुत कर सकती हैं। चाहे यह तमन्ना, सड़क या शबनम मौसी हो, तीसरे लिंग के सामाजिक और ऐतिहासिक महत्व को स्वीकार करने का समय आ गया है।
“बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत” नाम से ही यह एक संस्कृत ग्रंथ जैसा प्रतीत होता है। श्री रचन ने इसे वेदांत से प्रेरित होकर चुना है। जैसे वेदों का सार उपनिषदों में निहित है, वैसे ही यह पुस्तक पुरुष–महिला बाइनरी से परे जाकर LGBTQIA+ समुदाय की अभिव्यक्ति, गरिमा और न्याय की कहानी प्रस्तुत करती है।
स्वास्थ्य की बाधाओं के बावजूद, लेखक ने यह महत्वपूर्ण कार्य प्रस्तुत करने के लिए अथक प्रयास किया। उनके पेन की धार स्पष्ट है—बदनाम बस्ती पर आठ पृष्ठों का विश्लेषणात्मक लेख उनकी शोधक्षमता का प्रमाण है। प्रत्येक फिल्म का विमर्श पाठक का ध्यान खींचता है। यदि आज इस विषय पर कोई फिल्म बनाई जाए, तो निर्माता और निर्देशक लेखक से मार्गदर्शन अवश्य लें।
श्री विजय रचन साहसी, मानवतावादी और सामाजिक न्याय के प्रहरी लेखक हैं। उन्होंने अपने पुस्तकों में हमेशा हाशिए पर पड़े लोगों को नायक बनाया— बॉलीवुड की नारीगाथा. बॉलीवुड का गुमशुदा मुसलमान, बॉलीवुड के अतिरिक्त —और अब चौथे ग्रंथ के रूप में बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत- यह उनकी 18वीं पुस्तक है। स्वास्थ्य की परवाह किए बिना, वे लगातार लिखते रहे हैं। उनका नाम ही “रचन” है—रचना अवश्य होगी।
वेदांत के दर्शन से प्रेरित, बॉलीवुडस्य लिंगांत की द्वंद्वात्मक परिभाषाओं से परे जाकर पहचान, न्याय और समावेशन की कहानी प्रस्तुत करता है। यह पुस्तक केवल बॉलीवुड की समीक्षा नहीं, बल्कि भारत की बदलती सामाजिक चेतना का दर्पण है, जो गरिमा, स्वीकृति और समावेशी समाज की दिशा में मार्गदर्शन करती है।
आशा है कि यह पुस्तक समाज को LGBTQIA+ समुदाय की स्वीकृति की ओर मार्गदर्शन करेगी। लेखक को हार्दिक शुभकामनाएँ—यह कृति खुले और समावेशी समाज के निर्माण में प्रेरणा बने।
