Maha Shivratri

Poison hardens; love softens. In the myth of Shiva, when he drinks Halahal—the cosmic poison—his body and mind bear an unbearable intensity. He is then offered water and milk, symbols of liquidity, calmness, and compassion. These gentle elements represent love and balance, which cool his reaction and prevent destruction, thereby saving the world.

From this emerges a larger metaphor: after darkness comes light. The long night of Shivratri gives way to dawn. With the waxing moon begins renewal, suggesting that restraint guided by love transforms danger into creation. Hardness alone destroys; softness alone dissolves; but their harmony sustains the universe.

विष कठोर करता है, प्रेम कोमल बनाता है। शिव की कथा में, जब वे हलाहल नामक विष का पान करते हैं, तब उनका शरीर और चेतना तीव्र पीड़ा और उग्रता से भर उठती है। तब उन्हें जल और दूध अर्पित किया जाता है—जो तरलता, शांति और करुणा के प्रतीक हैं। ये कोमल तत्व प्रेम और संतुलन का रूप लेकर उनके प्रभाव को शांत करते हैं और विनाश को रोककर संसार की रक्षा करते हैं।

यहीं से एक व्यापक रूपक उभरता है—अंधकार के बाद प्रकाश आता है। शिवरात्रि की लंबी रात्रि के पश्चात भोर होती है। बढ़ता हुआ चंद्रमा नई सृष्टि और नवआरंभ का संकेत देता है। संदेश यह है कि प्रेम द्वारा संयमित शक्ति विनाश को सृजन में बदल सकती है। कठोरता अकेले नाश करती है, कोमलता अकेले विलीन करती है, पर दोनों का संतुलन ही जगत को टिकाए रखता है।
