Darkness, the side effects of Richness
Why did the vehicle of Goddess Saraswati is Swan? And why did the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi is Owl? Saraswati is a Goddess of light and Lakshmi is a Goddess of darkness. Saraswati is the Goddess of knowledge and Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth.
When knowledge comes, it brings peace and happiness, the outcome of Satva. And when wealth comes, it brings unhappiness, greed, delusion of mind; the outcome of Rajas and Tamas. Swan is a symbol of peace and happiness and owl is a symbol of fear and sadness.

Saudi Arabia, one of the richest countries in the world is famous for it's strict law & order. 30% of its people are very rich but others are commons, earning and living. The gap between rich and others are very wide. No entertainments are allowed in public. Mutawa, the religious police governs the behaviour of the people in public. Women have to wear burkha and to live under male guardian (mahram). The richness brings more wives to male. As the guy get richer but ageing, buy younger wife at regular intervals. As a result a man has 3-4 wives and many children. Sometimes, he may not know the names of all the children. And the youngest 4th wife is not allowed to meet the sons of 1st wife. Obviously, equal in age they may start pairing. The "old man" controls the attraction of youngs by implementing code of conduct.
The rich olds are getting young, younger, youngest wives by paying dinars and the young men are unable to pay for wife, living in frustration. As the laws are very strict, they use the land of Bahrain to drink and ventilate. Many married also go for a change. And wives of them, knowing well of their acts and a risk of death if caught, do take a chance to slip with the car driver or other known male.
SA has earned richness, the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, and the outcome may be bathrooms made in Gold but many may not have happiness of heart, the outcome of Satva.
We shall worship Goddess Lakshmi to the extent of our need of better quality of life, but shall continue with our preference for Saraswati, the Goddess, who brings peace and happiness in our life through knowledge.
